This is the first of a series of skincare news flashes that we have put together for you, with the hope that your recognition of specific skin types and skin conditions will ensure you enjoy a beautiful skin for life and help to preserve your skins youth.

 In this news flash we will look at Dry Skin types and Sensitive Skin conditions.

The two are quite often associated with each other.

Currently, over 60% of the population complain of some form of skin sensitivity. Be it redness, discomfort, irritation and or heat. Quite often this is due to neglect or improper care that results in the skin becoming vulnerable.

 It will have little, if any, natural protection from the outside world and, as the normal protection levels dwindle, the skin loses it’s natural oils and starts to become a dry or very dry skin type. Redness is often associated with a dry skin.

 If left uncared for and unprotected, the red, dry skin will become extremely fragile and may become sensitive. The result may be a red flushing of the skin, especially when you go from cold to warm temperatures or vice versa, as well as skin tightness and discomfort.

You may then start to notice blood capillary damage that appears as a red network of superficial veins on the cheeks and around the nose. These may worsen temporarily with stimuli such as heat, alcohol, sun exposure or spicy food.

If the skin is still left unprotected and uncared for, dry skin types with sensitive skin conditions may become intolerant and sensitised to products and, in extreme cases (especially around times of hormonal change), a condition known as Acne Rosacea may form.

 A dry, sensitive skin with its vulnerable, fragile nature is easy to care for and control but due to the lack of natural protection, is often the skin that ages most quickly.
